Q: What is a Steel Cabin?
A: Steel Cabins or Steel Portable Buildings were developed originally to give a more robust and longer lasting alternative to the original textured cabins, later developed into Anti Vandal Cabins for use in areas where the risk of theft or vandalism was possible.
Q: What does the term Anti Vandal mean?
A: Anti-Vandal Cabins are a type of steel cabin which has been manufactured with security as its main priority. They have a solid steel construction including steel pedestrian doors and steel shutters over the windows. This is to reduce the risk of damage caused by vandals and to prevent theft of goods inside.
Q: What are Portable Cabins?
A: Portable Cabins or Buildings are prefabricated relocatable small buildings from 6ft x 6ft to approximately 40ft x 12ft in size which are for temporary accommodation. Often used by builders on site as offices, mess rooms or welfare facilities. They are also used by many other businesses, individuals, local authorities and many more.
Q: What different types or styles of Portable Cabins are available?
A: There are 2 different construction types of Portable Cabins - Timber or Steel. There are then many options within each of these ranges including Steel Anti-Vandal and Timber Jackleg Cabins which are the 2 most popular types.
Q: What does Jack Leg mean?
A: Jack Leg referrs to the steel legs that are attached to some Portable Cabins. Generally only attached to timber cabins these Jack Legs have many uses, they are adjustable for use on sites with an uneven surface and they also act as a secure fixing point to allow for similar sized cabins to be stacked on top.
Q: Do Steel Cabins come fitted with Jacklegs?
A: The original Steel Cabins did for the same purposes as Timber Cabins, the Jacklegs were used for lifting, stacking and positioning on site. More modern Steel Cabins have Jackleg fixing points if customers require them but they are optional and to a degree obselete, modern Steel Cabins are positioned and stacked on the corner posts which are now the secure points for them. The lifting points vary depending on manufacturers design.
Q: What is a Portakabin Building?
A: Portakabin Ltd are a specific manufacturer within the Portable Building industry and not a generic term for portable cabins.
Q: What does the term Welfare mean relating to Cabins?
A: All employers have to provide welfare facilities for their employees, which includes that provision for Toilets and Canteens or Mess Rooms have to be made available for employees even if they are on a building site for example.
Q: Will I need planning permission?
